Why Your Child Support Grant Hasn’t Arrived and How to Sort It Out
Check Your Payment Date First
Child Support Grant payments are made on the 5th of each month. If the 5th falls on a weekend or public holiday, payment is made on the last working day before it. If today is before the 5th, your payment is not late — it has not been processed yet.
Current grant amount: R560 per child (increases to R580 from April 2026).
Common Reasons Your Payment Did Not Arrive
Banking details incorrect or outdated If you recently switched banks or your account was closed, SASSA will have sent payment to your old account. Visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID and new bank details to update them. Bring a stamped bank confirmation letter or your new bank card.
Grant suspended for a review SASSA periodically reviews eligibility. If your grant is under review you will typically receive an SMS notification. Bring your ID and proof of income to your nearest SASSA office to resolve it quickly.
ID or personal details mismatch A discrepancy between your ID details and SASSA’s records can pause payments without warning. This often happens after a name change or if there was a capturing error on the original application. Visit a SASSA office to correct it in person.
Caregiver change not updated If the child has moved to a different caregiver and SASSA was not notified, payments may stop automatically. The new caregiver must apply at a SASSA office with the child’s birth certificate, their own ID, and an affidavit confirming caregiving responsibility.
Account dormancy Some banks flag accounts as inactive after several months without transactions, which can block incoming payments. Contact your bank directly to reactivate your account — this is resolved through your bank, not SASSA.
Child turned 18 The Child Support Grant stops automatically when the child turns 18. If your child recently had a birthday this is likely the reason.
Switching Your Child Support Grant to TymeBank
If you want to receive your grant into a TymeBank account, visit any Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Boxer, or Usave store with a TymeBank kiosk. Open a TymeBank account on the spot, then visit your nearest SASSA office with your new account details to update your banking information.
How to Cancel the Child Support Grant
Online: Visit srd.sassa.gov.za, log in with your ID number, navigate to active grants, and select “Cancel.”
In person: Visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID. Cancellation takes effect from the following payment cycle.
Note: if you are cancelling because the child moved to a new caregiver, the new caregiver must apply separately — cancelling alone does not automatically transfer the grant.
What To Do If None of the Above Applies
Call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 (free call, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm). Have your ID number and the child’s birth certificate number ready before you call. If the issue is not resolved by phone, visit your nearest SASSA office in person — some payment issues can only be resolved face to face.
