What To Do First
Check the payment date for the Child Support Grant for the current month on our SASSA Payment Dates page. Confirm the payment date has actually passed before treating it as a missing payment. If the payment date has passed, wait three full working days before contacting SASSA as bank processing times vary. If three working days have passed and funds have still not reflected, work through the steps on this page in order.
Step 1: Confirm the Payment Date Has Passed
The Child Support Grant is paid on the third day of SASSA’s monthly payment cycle. Before doing anything else confirm the current month’s payment date has passed. The payment date varies slightly each month depending on weekends and public holidays.
For the full 2026 payment schedule see our SASSA Payment Dates page. If the payment date has not yet passed, your payment is not late. Wait until the payment date and allow three working days before treating it as a problem.
Step 2: Check Your Bank Statement Carefully
Before contacting SASSA check your bank statement thoroughly. SASSA payments do not always reflect with the word SASSA in the transaction description. Look for any of the following references on your statement around the payment date.
SOCIAL GRANT, SAPO, a numerical reference code, or a deposit from an unfamiliar reference that arrived around the payment date. Some banks display SASSA payments differently depending on their internal processing systems. If you see an unexpected deposit around the payment date contact your bank to confirm whether it is your Child Support Grant.
Step 3: Contact Your Bank
If you cannot identify the payment on your statement contact your bank directly and ask them to confirm whether a SASSA deposit was received for the relevant month. Ask specifically whether the deposit was accepted into your account or returned to SASSA.
A deposit can be returned to SASSA for several reasons. Your account may have been closed or dormant. Your account may not be able to receive certain types of deposits. Your account details on the SASSA system may not exactly match your bank records. If your bank confirms the deposit was returned, contact SASSA immediately to request reprocessing to your correct and active account.
Step 4: Check Your Banking Details on the SASSA System
Log in to the SASSA services portal and check the banking details SASSA has on file for your Child Support Grant. Confirm the account number, bank name, and account type are all correct and that the account is still active and in your name.
Common banking detail problems that cause missing payments include an old account number from a bank you no longer use, an account that has been closed or gone dormant, an account that was in a previous married name that no longer matches your current ID, a joint account that SASSA does not accept, and a business account that SASSA does not accept for grant payments.
If any of these apply, update your banking details immediately at a SASSA office or through the SASSA services portal. For full guidance see our SRD Banking Details Update page. While this page covers SRD specifically the banking update process is the same for all SASSA grants.
Step 5: Check Whether Your Grant Is Still Active
Your Child Support Grant can be suspended or cancelled for several reasons without you being immediately aware. Log in to the SASSA services portal and check the current status of your grant.
Reasons your grant may have been suspended or cancelled:
The child turned 18. The Child Support Grant stops automatically when the child turns 18. If another child in your care is under 18 you need to apply for the grant for that child separately.
A periodic means test review found your income now exceeds the threshold. SASSA conducts periodic reviews of all grant recipients. If a review found your income above the threshold your grant may have been suspended. Contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 to confirm and understand what documentation is needed to address it.
A fraud flag was placed on your profile. If SASSA’s fraud detection systems flagged your profile your grant may be suspended pending investigation. Contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 immediately if you believe your grant was suspended in error.
You are no longer the primary caregiver. If SASSA has information suggesting you are no longer the primary caregiver of the child your grant may be suspended. If this is incorrect contact SASSA immediately with supporting documentation confirming you remain the primary caregiver.
A duplicate application was detected. If SASSA’s system detected that another person is also receiving the Child Support Grant for the same child your grant may have been flagged. Contact SASSA to resolve the duplicate.
Step 6: Check Your Payment Method
If you are collecting your Child Support Grant at the Post Office your payment may be affected by Post Office service disruptions. The South African Post Office has experienced significant operational difficulties and payments through the Post Office channel are unreliable in many areas.
If you are still registered for Post Office collection and your payment has not arrived, update your payment method to a bank account as soon as possible. Visit a SASSA office with your ID document and bank details to make this change.
If you collect at a retail partner such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers, or Usave and your payment has not arrived, check that you are using your correct SASSA card and that your collection has not already been made on a previous visit. Contact the retailer’s customer service desk and SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 if the collection cannot be completed.
Step 7: Contact SASSA Directly
If you have worked through Steps 1 to 6 and your payment is still unresolved, contact SASSA directly.
By phone.
Call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11. This is a toll-free number available from any South African network Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00. Select Option 3 for other social grants queries. Have your ID number, registered phone number, and the month you are enquiring about ready. Ask the agent to confirm your payment status for the specific month, the payment reference number, and which account payment was processed to. Note the call reference number the agent provides.
By WhatsApp.
Send a message to 082 046 8553 and use the status check option to check your grant status. For complex payment disputes the call centre or an in-person visit is more effective than WhatsApp.
By email.
Send an email to grantenquiries@sassa.gov.za with your full name, ID number, registered phone number, the month in question, and a clear description of the problem. Email response times are slower than phone so use email only for non-urgent follow-up after a phone call.
In person.
Visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID document, your bank statement showing the missing payment period, and any call reference numbers from previous contacts with SASSA about this issue. In-person visits are the most effective channel for resolving complex payment problems that have not been resolved through phone contact.

Subject: Child Support Grant Payment Not Received — [Your ID Number] — [Month Year]
Message:
Dear SASSA,
I am writing to follow up on my Child Support Grant payment for [Month Year] which has not reflected in my account. The payment date for this month has passed and I have waited three working days without receiving funds.
Full name: [Your full name as on your ID]
ID number: [Your 13-digit ID number]
Phone number registered to grant: [Your registered phone number]
Number of children on the grant: [Number]
Bank account on file: [Account number and bank name if known]
I have checked my bank statement and contacted my bank who confirmed no SASSA deposit was received for this month. Please confirm whether payment was processed, the payment reference number, and which account payment was sent to. If payment failed or was returned, please advise on reprocessing.
Thank you.
What To Do If SASSA Confirms Payment Was Processed But You Still Have Not Received It
If SASSA confirms that payment was processed and provides a payment reference number but funds have not reflected in your account, take the following steps.
Go back to your bank with the payment reference number SASSA provided. Ask the bank to trace the payment using that reference number. The bank can confirm whether the deposit arrived and was accepted, arrived and was returned, or never arrived at all.
If the payment arrived and was returned, ask your bank to identify why it was returned and what needs to be corrected on your account to accept future SASSA deposits. Then contact SASSA to request reprocessing to your corrected account details.
If the payment never arrived at your bank, ask SASSA for the name of the bank and account it was processed to. If it was processed to a different account, this may indicate incorrect banking details on the SASSA system or in rare cases fraudulent activity. Contact SASSA to correct the banking details and report any suspected fraud to the South African Police Service.
Preventing Missing Payments in Future
Keep your banking details current. Update your banking details at SASSA immediately whenever you change banks, open a new account, or close an existing account. Do not wait until a payment fails.
Keep your registered phone number active. SASSA uses your registered phone number to send payment notifications and for OTP verification. If your number becomes inactive you lose access to these notifications and to the SASSA services portal.
Monitor the payment date each month. Check the payment date at the start of each month so you know exactly when to expect funds. Do not assume the date is the same each month as it varies slightly depending on weekends and public holidays.
Check your grant status periodically. Log in to the SASSA services portal every few months to confirm your grant is still active and your details are correct. Do not wait for a missing payment to discover that your grant has been suspended.
Notify SASSA of changes in your circumstances. If the child in your care turns 18, if you are no longer the primary caregiver, or if your income changes significantly, notify SASSA promptly. Failing to notify SASSA of changes that affect your eligibility is a grant fraud offence.
Scam Awareness Around Missing Child Support Grant Payments
People experiencing missing grant payments are frequently targeted by scammers who exploit the urgency and stress of the situation.
Common scams include calls claiming your payment has been blocked and requiring a fee to release it, WhatsApp messages offering to trace your missing payment for a fee, fake SASSA officials visiting your home claiming to investigate your missing payment, and people offering to reprocess your payment through a third-party system for a percentage of the grant amount.
SASSA never charges fees to release, trace, or reprocess a payment. No third party can access or reprocess your SASSA payment. All legitimate SASSA payment queries are handled free of charge through official channels. Never share your banking PIN, OTP, or SASSA card PIN with anyone claiming to help resolve a missing payment.

Child Support Grant Missing Payment FAQs
How long should I wait before contacting SASSA about a missing payment?
Wait three full working days after the payment date before contacting SASSA. Bank processing times vary and some accounts take longer to reflect SASSA deposits. If three working days have passed and funds have still not reflected, begin working through the steps on this page.
My bank says no deposit was received. What does this mean?
It means either SASSA did not process payment for that month or payment was processed to incorrect banking details. Contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 to confirm whether payment was processed and to which account.
SASSA says payment was processed but my bank says nothing arrived. What do I do?
Ask SASSA for the payment reference number and the account it was processed to. Take this reference number to your bank and ask them to trace it. If it was processed to the wrong account report this to SASSA and request correction of your banking details and reprocessing.
My grant was fine last month but is missing this month. What changed?
Common reasons for a previously working grant suddenly missing include a failed banking detail verification, an account that was closed or went dormant, a periodic means test review that flagged a change in circumstances, or a fraud flag placed on your profile. Check your grant status on the SASSA services portal and contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11.
Can I receive back payment for months where my payment was missing?
Yes. If SASSA confirms payment was not processed for a specific month and you were eligible, reprocessing should cover that month. Contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 and ask specifically about reprocessing for the affected month.
My Child Support Grant was suspended. Can I get it reinstated?
Yes in most cases. Contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 to find out the reason for the suspension and what documentation is needed to reinstate it. Visit a SASSA office if the call centre cannot resolve it by phone.
The child in my care turned 18 and my grant stopped. Can I apply for a different child?
Yes. If another child under 18 is in your primary care you can apply for the Child Support Grant for that child. Each qualifying child requires a separate application. Visit a SASSA office with the child’s birth certificate and your documents to apply.
I think someone else is collecting my Child Support Grant. What do I do?
Contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 immediately and report that you believe your grant is being collected fraudulently. Also report this to the South African Police Service. SASSA will investigate and secure your grant.
